- Number of patients in each of the HSC Critical Care Units (MICU, SICU, IICU) and their patient days per quarter period
Definition
- Number of patients refer to total unique patients occupying an ICU bed during a quarter period and includes the following:
- Patients admitted during the quarter period and discharged during the same quarter period
- Patients admitted during the quarter period and still in the unit at the last day of the quarter period
- Patients admitted before the quarter period and discharged during the quarter period
- Patients admitted before the quarter period and still in the unit at the last day of the quarter period
- Patient Days refer to the total days the patient is occupying an ICU bed during a quarter period.
- Partial days (i.e. Day of admission or discharged) are treated and counted as full days.
- Example . Admitted Sept 2, 2024 6:56 PM and Discharged Sept 4, 2024 10:15 am
- with Partial days: Sept 2 = 0.21d, Sept 3 = 1d , Sept 4 = .43d Total Patient Days= 1.64 d
- with all full days : Total Patient days = 3d
- Patients admitted and discharge during the quarter period start counting the days from the first day of admission to the last day of discharge.
- Patients admitted during the quarter period and still in the unit start counting the days from the first day of admission to the last day of the quarter period.
- Patients admitted before the quarter period and discharged during the quarter period start counting the days from the first day of the quarter period to the last day of discharge within the period.
- Patients admitted before the quarter period and still in the unit start counting the days from the first day of the quarter period to the last day of the quarter period.

Frequency
- Quarterly starting July-Sept 2024 to the next 3 years
- Report is provided at the first day following a quarter period
- Example for July to Sept 2024 quarter, report must be submitted by Oct 1, 2024.
