Sometimes when one of the laptops has not been touched for a period of time it will appear to shut down. The screen goes blank and the power-on light slowly blinks on and off. This means the laptop has gone into system standby mode. To turn it back on, just press the power button. Recovery should be substantially quicker than a full booting sequence.
This is intended functionality so a battery isn't drained while no one is using the laptop. If this causes any problems it can be turned off by doing the following:
- click on Start Menu -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Power Options
- under the Power Schemes Tab, in the bottom field called System Standby, make sure that "Never" is selected
- click OK
