I consolidated several mentions of capsule endoscopy here. Some had been edited to be inconsistent so I want to be sure. The old instructions had said to use (I) Digestive System, NOS as CCI 1, the new ones say to use (D) Large Intestine. Imaging by capsule endoscopy includes both the large and small intestine, and as an imaging code it should be combined with an imaging CCI1, so I think the old code was the better one to use. Why was it changed? Ttenbergen

• It was changed because there is no appropriate imaging coded that you can combine with (I) Digestive System, NOS and because in an earlier history when Joanna asked Allan how to code a capsule endoscopsy he said (D) Small Intestine and Inspection, Exploration (non-endoscopic), Brynn and I felt that because we code to the deepest end point, Large intestine (D) would be more appropriate.   • This may be a case where the "deepest" should be "the most inaccessible", which would be the small intestine, not the large. But also, in this case Inspection, Exploration (non-endoscopic) is used as an imaging code, right? So why can't it go with (I) Digestive System, NOS? Ttenbergen 10:54, 2021 October 5 (CDT)
