The Survive / Expired / Autopsy field tracks if a patient survived to be discharged, and if not, whether there was an autopsy.

Data encoding

This is one field in CCMDB.mdb. It is two fields (survive/expire) and (autopsy) in Ed's database. It was implemented as a single field to prevent the combination survive/autopsy.

Legacy Data

This field used to also encode whether a deceased patient had had an autopsy.

It was determined that our collection practice was likely to miss whether a patient had an autopsy, so it was decided to discontinue collection

As of version v1.7 an "N" has been sent for the autopsy field.

As of 1 Jan 2010 the autopsy options are replaced by just an "expire" field. Output doesn't change.
