Educational conferences, workshops, programs, seminars

Please refer to your collective agreement, article 2407- A, B, & C for more information related to Education Leave and Educational Development.

NOTE: Paid Education Day: Only Employer required educational conferences, workshops, programs or seminars are paid for by the employer as "paid education days." There is an "allowance" per fiscal year that will pay for tuition or registration fees, but not salary. See article 2407 A & B of your collective agreement.

Staff can do one of the following:

  1. All part time staff in our program have FLEX work days each week therefore, they can schedule themselves to work a day other than on a conference day if they would like to attend. Staff can still submit for reimbursement of tuition or registration fee after completion of event as per article 2407-C.
  2. Request an unpaid LOA, and submit to the WRHA Continuing Education Fund Part 1 & 2 (see link to forms below). Note Part 2 covers salary but not 100%. Max is $215.00 for the day so keep that in mind.
    • NOTE: If you take an unpaid LOA day, then you will not schedule yourself with an extra shift to make up for the unpaid LOA day. Example: if you work 3 days per week and you apply and get approved for an unpaid LOA day, then you will only schedule yourself to work for 2 days in that pay week, with one of the day being unpaid by employer.
  3. This third option is for fulltime or scheduled staff. Request a banked vacation or stat day to attend. You can still submit for article 2407-C reimbursement of registration or tuition fees.
