The Critical Care database counts the laboratory tests listed in the L Labs Flowsheet Tab for every patient for their entire LOS in a unit.

HSC Data Collectors only count a subset of labs as described in the program because some of the lab test are downloaded and imported directly in master TMSX Database.

Labs (eg CTs) done on the way to the Unit e.g. from the ER, are not counted since they occur before admission to the Unit.

Lab Collection Process

  • For every ICU patient,
    • for every qualifying laboratory test in the L_Labs Flowsheet tab in the Patient Viewer in CCMDB.mdb
      • locate the specific lab, enter the number of times the test was performed
      • if a culture is taken but the sample was inadequate to produce a result, the culture is still counted under lab counts
    • enter Platelets if received
    • enter Voluven if received
    • if a patient has no entries by the end of their stay, enter a date and leave zeros under all the labs
