  • Collectors, when a patient is admitted to your ICU with the primary reason being "cardioversion" for atrial fib do you include them as an ICU admission? These are short stay patients 1-2 hrs that come from ER, home, ward to ICU for cardioversion and get sent back to ER, home or ward. Not admitted under ICU attending? • we are still finding a number of overlapping admissions. An overlap is a patient who is occupying 2 beds, one in medicine and one in ICU during the same time period.TOstryzniuk 17:31, 20 August 2009 (CDT)
    • So far I have been counting cardioversions as admissions. This is because they are admitted under CCU doctors and require significant resources.

I don't count patients that come for heart cath that we babysit for a short time. If you want to change this, please let me know.--LKolesar 12:10, 21 August 2009 (CDT)

      • I have also been included these patients as admisstions as they ARE admitted under our ICU attendings and have one of our ICU nurses assigned to that patient, however short their stay.Wturner 12:10, 21 August 2009 12:51, 21 August 2009 (CDT)
        • Vic S4 serial # 3132 this patient was cardioverted in VM chart reviewed was only a bed borrow .Cardioversion done by VMU physician who stated pt.was not admitted to ICU. No clear guidelines as to which patients are admitted to VM or a bed borrow from ward. SKiesman, 21 August 2009 (CDT)
          • I thought that if the patient was a medical patient sent to ICU for a cardioversion, if the patient was taken care of the the ICU attending and an ICU nurse, this was a discharge from medicine to ICU then a readmit to medicine when completed. If the patient was not taken care of by the ICU staff, it was a bed borrow.gogogirl 08:40, 25 August 2009 (CDT)
        • At Concordia the cardioversions usually are done in PAR. They don't come to ICU unless they need admission. BDeVlaming 11:02, 31 August 2009 (CDT)
        • Have discussed this further with our acting program manager Dr. Griffin; he would prefer we call it a bed borrow & informed us that they are going to try & do these cardiioversions in PACU from now onNMiller 23:05, 1 September 2009 (CDT)
