Note: for information on how to code the Survive / Expired see there.

Legacy information only

The Autopsy field was used in TMSX to store whether a deceased patient had an autopsy. At the collection end this was actually coded as part of the Survive / Expired to prevent the unfortunate combination survive - autopsy. Collection ceased for good in the fall 2010

It was determined that our collection practice was likely to miss whether a patient had an autopsy, so it was decided to discontinue collection

As of version v1.7 an "N" has been sent for the autopsy field.

As of 1 Jan 2010 the autopsy options are replaced by just an "expire" field. Output doesn't change.

  • Autopsy field - YES or NO.

Autopsy Report follow up and Review & DX code Process

We used to review autopsy reports for deceased patients. Initially the existing diagnoses were updated with findings from the autopsy report, and later findings from the autopsy report were collected in empty admit or acquired slots and marked as subcode "50".
