Usually used in aggregate form as "per location" and/or "per timeframe", e.g. by day/month/quarter/year x Ward/Unit x Hospital.

Starting Oct 1, 2020, the Daily TISS Score which is based on all TISS 28 elements was no longer calculated since collection of all TISS28 elements was stopped (i.e. only a subset of it has continued).

Significance

TISS28 score reflects nursing workload. Average TISS scores per patient can be used to plan staffing requirements.

Definition and Derivation

Each element in TISS28 has a point if present.

Daily TISS Score is the sum of the individual element points for each day of ICU stay.

Each patient has a Daily TISS Score.

Numerator

Num = Sum of the Daily TISS Score of all patients in a given time frame

Denominator

Denom = Number of calendar days * Average Daily Bed Occupancy (Bed occupancy) on the same time frame

Formula

Average TISS Score per patient per day= Num / Denom
