Additional Info
{sc:crisis, chronic, trait}
- Sickle cell anemia is caused by an abnormal type of hemoglobin called hemoglobin S. Hemoglobin is a protein inside red blood cells that carries oxygen. Hemoglobin S changes the red blood cells. The red blood cells become fragile and shaped like crescents or sickles.
Alternate ICD10s to consider coding instead
(turn these into links to the actual diagnosis articles if possible. For some that might make no sense.) {sc:crisis, chronic, trait}
Candidate Combined ICD10 codes
(put links to likely candidates coded with this one, eg. a cause for a trauma.)
