Our CCI Collection includes a set of CCI Picklist and CCI Component coded imaging CCI Procedures. See #Imaging procedure list below for a list.

Coding Imaging Procedures

Code only if done by Radiology or Cardiology

  • Code diagnostic imaging procedures only if performed by Radiology or Cardiology for which there is an order.
    • Examples: a bedside echo done by a cardiology tech should be coded, but a bedside echo done by the ICU fellow should not be coded. An echo done informally by the cardiology team (i.e. informal in that no actual order was put in for it) should not be coded.

Coding Therapeutic/Diagnostic/Imaging activities at same procedure

Procedure coding in ICD10/CCI#Coding Therapeutic/Diagnostic/Imaging activities at same procedure

Types of imaging collected

The only plain x-rays we are going to capture are CCI Picklist items AXR plain film and CXR plain film. See "CCI 2 Code" column in the list below for the other types of imaging we collect as CCI Combined.

Additionally, there are some specific CCI Picklist items, and then there are the combined items.

Multiple Views at one sitting

If a AXR plain film or CXR plain film comprises multiple views/films done at one sitting, only count it as ONE.

  • e.g. if radiology does 3 views of the abdomen, this counts as 1, not 3. Template:Discussion that is likely true for the constructed ones as well, right? If so it should live in a more general part of this heading. Ttenbergen 18:39, 2018 February 7 (CST)

Angiograms

  • It is important to distinguish between “classic” angiograms and CT angiograms
    • The former are done by invasive radiology and we are only going to track a few of them, via the Picklist.
    • We will track all CT angiograms, which are coded identically to CT scans -- being done by body part, not the specific vessel (with the single exception of CT of the chest with PE protocol, which has it’s own Picklist code)
  • We will replace the current counts of the raw numbers of things with individual recording of the specific studies, except if they are done on the same day, in which case use Px_Count.
  • Fluoroscopy studies are not captured except insofar as it might be used during one of the classic angiograms we are capturing.
