I have been able to replicate this error when I added about ~30 new patients without closing the program.
The error is (at least in this instance):
Run-time error '2004':
There isn't enough memory to perform this operation. Close unneeded
programs and try the operation again.

I replicated the error on my PC, so I really doubt it has anything to do with mains/battery power.

Clicking help just gives a gray screen.
I am able to reproduce the error if I manually open and close pts from patientlist pick button and view form door button. I wrote a test program to see if I can force the error programmatically; the program opens and closes patients 100 times, but this doesn't trigger a problem.
There was a theory that this is related to '''battery power vs. mains power'''; I replicated the error on my PC, so I really doubt it has anything to do with that.

There is a debug error talking about running out of memory. It seems to happen when a patient is opened from the patient list and closed again about 30 times. This has been a problem since ~Jul 2010

The error is (at least in this instance):

Run-time error '2004':

There isn't enough memory to perform this operation. Close unneeded
programs and try the operation again.
Continue (grayed) end debug help

Clicking help just gives a gray screen.

I am able to reproduce the error if I manually open and close pts from patientlist pick button and view form door button. I wrote a test program to see if I can force the error programmatically; the program opens and closes patients 100 times, but this doesn't trigger a problem.

There was a theory that this is related to battery power vs. mains power; I replicated the error on my PC, so I really doubt it has anything to do with that.

  • Has anyone (who) had this error in situations other than adding a patient?
  • Thanks for the feedback, it really helps in tracking these bugs down! I made some changes with the Jan 2011 update that I hope might fix this. Could you please let me know if you are still getting this error? Thanks, Ttenbergen 19:18, 30 December 2010 (CST)Template:Discussion
  • I just had this error my laptop is really slow and I entered the wrong birth year and got this message plus I have been entering data for a couple of hours and also got run time error so I had to exit laptop and reenter. Shirley Kiesman
    • Sorry, I suspect I am a little late with these questions. It sounds like you have several things going on at the same time, one of them being the ongoing problems with your laptop. Do you remember if the out of memory error really happened upon entering the wrong birth year, or at a different time? If it was with the wrong birth year then this would be a new error we'd have to look into. Has anyone else got that one? Ttenbergen 17:50, 30 December 2010 (CST)Template:Discussion
  • I had this error occur after 30 minutes of laptop usage on a fully charged battery. It occurred after I clicked on "Add patient"--the empty serial number box appeared; but, when serial number attempted to be entered "out of memory" error popped up. This was after approx. eight entries done without a problem. I tried a few times to add a patient-same problem occurred so I exited the program. I went back into ACCESS within a minute and had no further problems.Mlaporte 17:39, 29 December 2010 (CST)
    • That is very similar to what I found, only it took me more new patients to make it happen. OK, I'll have another look at this one... Ttenbergen 17:50, 30 December 2010 (CST)
