GI Scopes: Difference between revisions

According to the gospel of CCI Collection#Related Imaging, Diagnostic and Therapeutic procedures performed at the same time, all diagnostic and therapeutic actions completed during the scope will be coded.

There are generally five CCI Collections that can occur in a GI Scope:

- Inspection, Exploration (endoscopic)
- Biopsy (endoscopic)
- Excision, Resection (for polyp removal)
- Control of Bleeding (for treating actively bleeding vessels)

Combine one of the above codes with the deepest area that was reached:

Exceptions: If a repair of a vessel that is not currently bleeding use:

- Occlusion + Blood Vessels, NOS (T)

The other page instructs to code ALL diagnostic and therapeutic procedures performed at the same time, but this is worded like we code differently. For example, if a colonoscopy was done and an inspection to the jejenum was done and then a biopsy was taken in the colon, this makes it sound like we should could Biopsy (endoscopic) + Small intestine (D), which is inaccurate. If we all agree that we code the way it is written on [[CCI Collection#Related Imaging, Diagnostic and Therapeutic procedures performed at the same time]], I can update this page.
