This article contains instructions on how to set up a new laptop for a new location.
Kit
Stuff to take to a location to set up a laptop:
- laptop
- charger
- SD Card (will come from PDAs in most cases)
- mouse
Laptop Prep
- have the laptop imaged by eHealth
- make sure you tell them to include the Novell Client if the laptop site uses it (or if the site is yet to be determined)
- tell eHealth the location if known so the right tree can be chosen during image install
- Groupwise or not?
- (if available) in BIOS, to save power:
- disable wireless in non-wireless locations
- disable bluetooth
- add all local users as admins (must be plugged into network for this)
- set My Documents folder location to "c:\mydocuments (right-click on my documents, properties...)
- default goes to network share which is not available off-line and will cause errors
- Install driver updates from HP
- specifically, the slide pad drivers on the image don't seem to work
- Windows Update
- Firefox (less buggy for wiki editing)
- Copy
- Copy data to laptop:
- Data restore for existing laptop setup see one of the following:
- Set up new laptop/conversion from PDA: Regional Server\data\master\Master Data CCMDB.mdb --> c:\ccmdb_data\ccmdb.mdb (ie rename file)
- Regional Server\programs\master\CCMDB.mdb --> c:\ccmdb_program\ccmdb.mdb
- Regional Server\programs\master\Settings.mdb --> c:\ccmdb_program\Settings.mdb
- Confirm Settings.mdb has the right settings for laptop location
- Copy data to laptop:
- Set up "News and backup"
- change Folder Options to be visible; Windows explorer, Tools, View,
- uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types"
Setup on delivery
- set up printing
- copy Shortcuts from Regional Server\maintenance\StdShortcuts to the c:\documents and settings\all users\desktop
- CCMDB wiki (i.e. to http:///ltc.umanitoba.ca/ccmdb/) recent changes
- Regional Server
- Wikipedia
- hours template shortcut
- SD Card
- Output Folder
- ccmdb programs shortcut
- test "News and backup" batch file
- Access settings changes with the user logged in:
- set Macro security settings to low (Access, Tools, Macro, Security) see also
- set menus to always show all (Tools, Customize, Always show full menus)
Convert data from PDA to laptop
Move data over
- sync into old CCMDB.mdb as usual
- import into c:\CCMDB_data\CCMDB.mdb
- open c:\CCMDB_data\CCMDB.mdb with the usual "tasty password"
- go into modules --> importer
- edit the "path" statement in the get_old_data sub
- run the get_old_data sub by clicking the "play" button
Retire old ccmdb.mdb
- rename the old <regional server>\programs\<location>\CCMDB.mdb to ccmdb.pre_laptop so it does not overwrite the new one when the "News and backup" is used
Change Settings to use laptop
Open
- c:\ccmdb_program\settings.mdb
and set the checkbox in for "laptop" to checked
Retiring the PDA
If the laptop setup is part of a conversion from PDA to laptop
- do one last backup on the PDA
- move the SD card to the laptop
- wipe PDA (press outside buttons at same time as stabbing recessed reset button)
Train the collector
Laptop specific
- battery swaps
- turn on/off
- daily "News and backup" batch file
CCMDB.mdb
- adding a new patient
- deleting any entry (Deleting data in CCMDB.mdb)
- Delete FinalChecks button
- start to enter text in dropdowns, it will fill the rest automatically
- escaping out of intractable errors (press ESC) and/or restatrt app
- diagnosis finder form
- tmp entry form
