| *I would like to comment that putting AIDS diagnostic code in the category of infection is inappropriate. I had difficulty finding it as I was looking under immunological problems in "other medical" which would be the expected place to find this. It is almost as bad as putting mastectomy under GI/GU OR which is where it is. Would anyone think to find it there?? I think our codes should be reorganized under their appropriate category. I even made a list of these inappropriately categorized codes about a year ago. Would it be too difficult to do this??--LKolesar 09:46, 14 January 2010 (CST)

| **We are working on moving toward ICD-10 with our diagnoses altogether, and that system implies an internationally accepted categorization. I don't know if there is much sense spending energy on re-categorizing dxs at this time. Also, you guys have a good knowledge of idiosyncrasies of our system at this time; even if a new categorization were arguably better, you'd still have to learn it. | ***I know we are planning on a change to ICD 10, however it does not make any sense to leave incorrect categories. The actual implementation of the ICD 10 system will likely be many months away( at least). In the meantime new staff in particular will be baffled by our categories and if they don't find a particular code in the right place they will likely not code it at all, thinking we don't have a code for that. I already did some work to outline the errors and even suggest where they need to go in June of 2008. I also don't mind assisting with this task. Does anyone agree with me?--LKolesar 08:51, 18 January 2010 (CST)
