- NOTE: July 17, 2012 - ccmdb has not yet been moved over the server. Tina was to look into some type of problem and then email all staff when move the new server location is a go.Trish Ostryzniuk 15:08, 2012 July 17 (CDT)
The CCMDB.mdb and our sent data are located on the Regional Server
- \\sbghnwfs0102.ad.wrha.mb.ca\NSSVOL1\shared\icu_Data_Collection\
- New one will be \\ad.wrha.mb.ca\WRHA\REGIONWRHA\SHARED\ICU_DATA_COLLECTION
New Regional Server
There have been ongoing problems with the regional server so eHealth has offered to move us onto a new server. To move us over to the new server I need to first make sure all laptops can access this. Please do the following and let me know if you have any problems:
- go to the current regional server and double-click the link "copy_RegionWRHA_to_desktop"; this will put a shortcut labeled RegionWRHA onto the all users desktop on your laptop, i.e. all data collectors using the laptop should be able to see the shortcut
- double-click the shortcut;
- if it opens, please save some file with a name that lets me know that you and your laptop are able to access
- if you have problems accessing the new server, please contact Tina
Once I know everyone can see the new server I will move the contents of the regional server over and change your ccmdb.mdb to send to the new server.
After and only after that is done please delete the Regional Server shortcut.
Moving to RegionWRHA will discontinue using Twister altogether, so please ensure you don't refer to Twister after this is implemented.
Tina's migration notes
- copy new startup connector net use batch file
- change how regional server is accessed by ccmdb.mdb
- linked tables
- sending
- these should be all coming from one place, so this might be easy
- news and backup - make part of copy bat and download new one
- fix desktop shortcut (output) (delete old one)
How to make a Shortcut
All PCs in the Critical Care and Medicine Database Program should have a shortcut to the regional server on their desktop. Here are the instructions to make a new one if one has gone missing.
- find an empty spot on the desktop and right-click
- mouse to "New", then click on "Shortcut"
- copy and paste the full name of the Regional Server as per below into the "Type the location of the item" line and click "Next"
- type "Regional Server" into the "Type a name for this shortcut" line and click "Finish"
Troubleshooting Regional Server
1 - Reboot
- If you can't access the regional server, the first thing to try is to re-boot.
- The most common reason not to be able to access the regional server is something going wrong during the login process. Usually a re-boot will fix this.
2 - Call the eHealth ServiceDesk
- If a PC reboot does not fix your access to the regional server, call the eHealth ServiceDesk. It could be either a problem with the server itself or with the network connection to the server (the latter is common at Concordia). CCMDB IT Support cannot fix this, the problem will be fixed fastest if you call eHealth ServiceDesk.
- when you talk to the helpdesk, make sure you don't call it "Twister" to avoid confusion
- tell the helpdesk that "this is not a mapping issue because we access the server using the UNC name"
- if the server is running fine, and the network connection of your location to the rest of the WRHA is up, then the problem might be with the way your account is set up; the help desk might they want to check how access rights should be set up, refer them to the instructions to set up a data collector, as written by Sandy Kroeger from eHealth.

Support
The Regional Server is located at St Boniface and is currently maintained by Lorne Mansky from eHealth. If there are problems accessing the regional server, contact the eHealth ServiceDesk, and they will generate a work order for Lorne.
Legacy Info
Twister
CCMDB staff at HSC will sometimes refer to the Regional Server as "Twister". This is because HSC used to require a "door" (a gateway) with the sign "Twister" to access the Regional Server. However, this door also leads elsewhere (which might confuse the help desk), and the door is not used from other locations (which might confuse data collectors).
To avoid confusion, use the term Regional Server.
The actual address was \\Twister\icu\
Server name usage prior to changing to fully qualified domain name (FQDN)
The Regional Server used to be accessed as:
- \\sbghnwfs0102\nssvol1\shared\icu_Data_Collection\
A lot of locations are still set up with this link. However, notably at the Vic this set-up no longer works. All new laptops will be set up with the new address, \\sbghnwfs0102.ad.wrha.mb.ca\NSSVOL1\shared\icu_Data_Collection\, which includes the domain name ".ad.wrha.mb.ca". The full address should work everywhere, but wherever there is no problem this is not an urgent thing to change.
2010-08-20 Post-PDA Archiving
I have backed up old files to CD and removed them from the Regional Server. We used to use about 2.7GB and now use about 780MB. Specifically:
