Discussion about code change
- Tricyclic antidepressants have been mostly replaced by newer antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (NRIs). They occasionally use tricyclics if other meds are not working but this is rare.
- If a patient overdoses on an antidepressant we do not have a specific code for this. While we can use the "other" code, I think it would be of more value to put a general antidepressant overdose code and maybe take out the tricyclic one. (in the poisoning section).
