Used in aggregate form as "per location" and/or "per timeframe", e.g. by day/month/quarter/year x Ward/Unit x Hospital.

Significance

APACHE score is reflection of severity of illness. APACHE scores can be used to better understand patient severity of illness and it’s influence on other quality indicators.

Monthly, quarterly or yearly based on admission dates or discharge dates

Definition and Derivation

Mean APACHE Score

Numerator

Num = Sum of all patient's APACHE Score in a given period

Denominator

Denom = Total number of patients

Formula

Mean APACHE Score = Num / Denom

No SAS program to calculate APACHE Score. Data is taken from Created_Variables_CC_2021 table.
