Additional Info
- Retinal artery occlusion is a blockage in one of the small arteries that carry blood to the retina. The causes are emboli or atherosclerosis. It is like a stroke to the eye: the part of the retina that does not receive enough blood and oxygen will be ischemic and that part of vision will be lost.
- If the loss of vision is temporary it is called Amaurosis fugax (Latin fugax meaning fleeting, Greek amaurosis meaning darkening, dark, or obscure) is a painless temporary loss of vision in one or both eyes.
