This page contains the list of diagnoses we did not code in the old dx coding schema. For the ICD10 list, see List of ICD10 Diagnoses we don't code.

In addition to this list there may be further diagnoses in the Category:Diagnosis not coded (old).

Also see: List of CCI procedures we don't code

Try ctrl-f on this page to find the diagnosis you are looking for.

Surgeries or procedures not currently coded

  • Aneurysm clipping for an aneurysm that is not a AAA or TAA.
  • Angio for embolization (renal and GI)
  • Angioplasty for peripheral vascular blockages.
  • Bentall Procedure
  • Bilroth I &II (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billroth_II)
    • use Bowel Resection or other specific interventions done in surgical procedure
  • Biopsy: any that are not listed specifically. Need a general biopsy code.
  • EBUS (Endobronchial Ultrasound) - we do not track these
  • Epicardial wires placed via mini-thorocotomy for improving contractility in Dilated Cardiomyopathy patients.
    • use medical reason for procedure ie congestive heart failure or specific arrhythmia)
  • ERCP
  • Endarterectomy code- We need a general vascular endareterectomy code (we just have carotid),can be done on other vessels (currently not coded).
    • Gamma Knife
  • Ileostomy
  • lumbar punctures and lumbar drains
  • Massive transfusion protocol. We do not code this because if anyone wants this information, Blood Services or the Blood Bank keep track of this information and the specific patients that require this.
  • Needle Lung Biopsy
  • Omentectomy: use other GI OR.
  • Patent Ductus Arteriosus repair and foramen ovale repair.
    • use ASD repair for foramen ovale repair 75801 Cardiac Septal Repair - ASD
  • Pelvic exenteration.
    • need to itemize each procedure (bowel resection; cystectomy; prostatectomy; colostomy; etc)
  • PD catheter removal and insertion (not coded)
  • Roux-en-Y procedure (a type of gastric bypass surgery)
  • Repair of ruptured or dissecting blood vessels.
  • Stent insertions- for which we don't have a specific code. It would be nice to have a category for stents and subcodes of vascular, renal and GI.
  • Surgery for closures of chest or abdomen if had to be left open for various reasons. (not currently coded)
  • Thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR)
  • Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI)
  • Tonsillectomy (code as airway concerns if applicable)
  • VAC insertions and VAC changes (currently not coded and this procedure is a common surgical procedure.)
  • Vacuum assisted closure
  • Vascular graft procedures- WE have a mixed bag of specific in the database (iliac femoral; fem pop; hepatorenal bypass graft; aorto-iliac) It would be much easier to just have a general vascular graft option because many grafts are not included in the options that are given.

Medical Diagnoses Not Currently Coded

Some suggested options given for coding; some items have no suggestion as we are not currently interested in coding them at this time.

  • Amphetamine Overdose specifically (ie Ritalin or Crystal Meth),
  • Aneurysm (ruptured or dissecting) other than AAA or TAA. can use Aneurysm - other but no selection for ruptured or dissecting is available if not an aortic aneurysm.--LKolesar 11:37, 2016 April 15 (CDT)
  • Aneurysm-Cerebral of any kind rather than "other"-many CVAs coming in with CT findings of cerebral artery aneurysms/dissections --Llemoine 15:01, 2016 August 29 (CDT)
  • Angina or ACS - TYpe 2 see ACS for coding info
  • asbestos related lung disease (can be mesothelioma) Use Pneumoconiosis
  • Ascites (not currently coded)
  • Ataxia: we have Friedreich's Ataxia in our database. This type is a rare genetic condition similiar to Muscular Dystrophy. I would like to see a generic Ataxia instead.--LKolesar 13:30, 2016 February 12 (CST)
  • Autoimmune encephalitis (or autoimmune encephalopathy) is a diverse group of neuro-psychiatric disorders recognized recently, presenting acutely or subacutely with alteration of consciousness, cognitive decline, seizure, abnormal movements. Autoimmune encephalitis like NMDA For now put Immunological problems
  • Barrett's Esophagus - Esophagitis Gastric reflux
  • Cardiorenal syndrome
  • Calciphylaxis
  • Coagulopathy for reasons other than liver failure or transfusion.
  • Colonovaginal fistula. Suggest to use small or large bowel fistula. (We have the following fistula listed in the DB: ileocolonic; small or large bowel fistula; enterocutaneous fistula; esophageal fistula.)
  • Coronary artery stent thrombosis or coronary artery thrombosis
    • use Art/Ven Embolus/Thrombus Note: coronary artery thrombosis is the usual mechanism for an MI, so if you are coding MI, this covers this. Stent thrombosis is not currently coded.
  • COP: cryptogenic organizing pneumonia-Bronchiolitis obliterans organizing pneumonia (BOOP), also known as cryptogenic organizing pneumonia, is a form of non-infectious pneumonia
  • Dehydration: Use Other Metabolic problems see Gastroenteritis
  • Diabetes Mellitus-new diagnosis(not coded)
  • Diastolic dysfunction
  • Distributive shock 2nd to surgery, drugs, inflammation, etc.
    • use hypotension NYD
    • if you mean Hypotension NYD (not due to shock or post op) then the name of the article seems inconsistent with this instruction]]. We were told to use this code even though it makes no sense. It would be nice to have a distributive shock code so we would not have this contradictory coding going on. --LKolesar 10:39, 2014 December 12 (CST)
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Foreign body either as a condition or as removal of. (could be put under trauma, but not currently coded)
  • Hematuria (not coded, code cause)
  • Hepatopulmonary syndrome - use each individual problem eg
  • Hypercarbic Respiration
  • IgG deficiency and other hematological problems as comorbids
  • Infected hematoma : use site and then infection (eg. intra-abdominal abscess).
  • Infectious colitis: no code in infection section for this. (other than pseudomembranous colitis and Gastroenteritis)
  • Infectious myocarditis
  • Intra abdominal/psoas abscess--Llemoine 09:56, 2018 April 26 (CDT)
  • Ischemic colitis. Suggest to use Ischemic Bowel and Inflammatory Bowel Disease: other.
  • Leukocytosis NYD
  • Leukopenia (only have neutropenia) Use Neutropenia if this is true otherwise sometimes Pancytopenia covers this if other blood components are also low.
  • lymphedema: do not have a code
  • Liver congestion related to R Ventricular failure
  • lupus nephritis (we have lupus pneumonitis and lupus cerebritis but not lupus nephritis). Use SLE and a renal code like renal insufficiency if it meets the definition we have.
  • Mallory Weiss Tear
  • Microcephaly
  • Myeloproliferative disorders which includes thrombocytosis, and other blood cell cytosis. This disorder produces too many cells. We only have a code for Myelodysplasia NYD which is producing abnormal or dysfunctional blood cells. We really don't have any code that captures this exactly and it can lead to a hypercoagulable state. --LKolesar 11:30, 2017 May 12 (CDT)
  • Myxoma, only Excision of Myxoma.
  • Neurogenic bladder-we code obstructive uropathy but should consider this addition-patients require either frequent catheterizations /chronic indwelling foley or supra-pubic insertion: cause for freq UTIs/ESBLs; NOT same as obstructive uropathy which is only option-- Louise Lemoine --15:09, 2016 November 17 (CST)
  • NMDA encephalitis - we have been using "Other Metabolic Encephalopathy" --CMarks 13:43, 2016 August 4 (CDT)
  • Paget's Disease of bone: chronic disorder that can result in enlarged or misshapen bones caused by excessive breakdown and formation of bone followed by bone remodeling resulting in pain, misshapen bones, fractures, and arthritis in joints near affected bones; rarely it develops into a primary bone cancer known as Paget's sarcoma
  • Pneumobilia--CMarks 10:16, 2015 January 27 (CST)

  • Renal infarct (if related to Renal Artery Stenosis
  • Right ventricular dysfunction
  • Scabies
  • Serotonin Syndrome
    • If cause is drug overdose, use poisoning for that particular drug.--
  • Sexual assault (could be put under trauma but not currently coded)
  • Shock Liver
  • Sickle Cell anemia-a chronic significant co-morbid..unable to code as a comorbid resulting in a "No Comorbid" choice yet cause for freq admissions re management of same-could we please add?-- Louise Lemoine-- 13:53, 2016 February 18 (CST)
    • Similar to Lou's comment I have had patients admitted with other genetic disorders that significantly reduce life span and cause numerous admissions & these cases have "no comorbid" entered into their profiles.Feb 19th, 2016. Judy K.
  • Smoker (not used in Database at this time)
  • Spinal muscular atrophy- genetic disorder that affects the control of muscle movement. It is caused by a loss of specialized nerve cells, called motor neurons- use neurodevelopmental disorder

  • CPE+ [Carbapenemase-Producing Enterobacteriaceae]new-isolation Gown and Glove-almost Meropenum resistant-- Louise Lemoine-- 14:51, 2017 November 14 (CST)

ICD10

The problem of diagnoses for which we don't have a code will go away in ICD10 due to the presence of NOS codes in ICD10.
