ICU Var 1 is used to tag ICU patients as follows:

  • OBS - Tags an ICU patient who is in the observation unit in the ER (emergency department) while under ICU attending care.
    • example: Concordia ICU patients has frequently sent ICU patients to the telemetry unit in their ER while still under ICU attending care.
    • tag started CON July 2006. Not many tagged to date.

Discussion

I reverted the deletion of the discussion section because. I suspect it was inadvertent since several of the issues have not been addressed in the article yet.

  • Is the OBS information used at this time? By whom and for what? E.g. does it go into one of the reports? Which one? --Ttenbergen 03:32, 24 July 2008 (CDT)
  • If only certain locations code it, which ones? --Ttenbergen 03:32, 24 July 2008 (CDT)
  • Overflow to other units - Critical Care HSC and STB only still refers to this one. Looks like usage has changed. One or both locations need to be updated. Tina.
    • Not sure what you mean here?TOstryzniuk 15:21, 22 July 2008 (CDT)
      • Follow the link. The page refers to how var 1 may be used at those locations. Is the information on that page still accurate? If a corrected version still refers to Var1, this page should refer to it. If not, the comment is done. Ttenbergen 16:10, 22 July 2008 (CDT)
        • This page lists out examples of how to code overflows and includes the Co-managed CCU/MICU patients. The Co-managed ones are LEGACY examples. On that page how to you relegate the items with VAR 1 C to legacy examples?TOstryzniuk 17:26, 22 July 2008 (CDT)
          • If you mean the "overflow to other units" page lists legacy items, then that is what I mean. That page and this current article both talk about Var 1 use, so they should be the same. If there is Legacy info, it should be moved under a heading "Legacy" and added to the "Legacy Data" category. Also, we would need dates when that collection started and ended. • start and end dates needed for the legacy section.Ttenbergen 23:50, 7 October 2008 (CDT)
  • According to Julie some locations, e.g. Vic, are now using the Var1/2 ICU for admit from and discharge to wards. This would be a nice consistency between Med and ICU, but then it would need to be done everywhere. When BRR or MAP isn't entered, the field is used for this. Should this practice be extended? • Julie is not correct on this point.TOstryzniuk 17:45, 23 January 2009 (CST)
