A witnessed arrest patient in ICU must also code for Cooling Protocol-BRR.

For in-hospital witnessed arrests, code as a witnessed arrest (100-2) only if event was witnessed by hospital medical staff, this does not include house keeping, maintenance or visiting family.

Discussion

Could an out-of-hospital arrest ever be coded as witnessed? Please don't answer in the discussion section, just delete the discussion and update the definition.Ttenbergen 00:05, 5 May 2009 (CDT)

Yes and this is the response I got from Laura on this question. The witnessed cardiac arrest on the wiki is speaking only of "in Hospital" arrests when it requires hospital staff to witness. In the community, I use anyone as a witness. The only unwitnessed arrests are if no-one is around when the person collapses and no one knows when it occurs and when CPR is delayed because no one could do it.
