The concept of emergency surgery is used in two places:
When to consider surgery emergent
Surgery is considered emergent only if the patient
- was admitted from OR or Recovery
- AND
- has "E1" in the E1, E2, E3 scheme for surgery documentation
- includes difficult intubations performed in the OR (as long as listed as an "E1")
