Additional Info
- Use this code for instances that are psychosocial in nature and NOT medical or psychiatric.
Examples include:
- Failure to cope when a true psychiatric diagnosis (e.g. depression) is NOT present
- Admission for a purely social reason -- e.g. can't make due without a ramp at home, and it fell down
- More generally, it covers: Progressive functional deterioration of a physical and cognitive nature. The individual's ability to live with multisystem diseases, cope with ensuing problems, and manage his/her care are remarkably diminished.
- This code includes some or much of what was previously called "Adult failure to thrive"
- Homelessness
- Admissions for "respite"
- Inability to afford prescribed medications; not taking them and results/contributes to hospitalization
- Combine this code with Medical noncompliance if applicable

Background
At Minutes Team Meeting June 10, 2015 we discussed that we would include code R62.7 for our old Adult failure to thrive. We decided after that the concept would be included in this code instead.
