There is some confusion right now which definition of influenza we will follow. However we are in the middle of flu season and people are off for holidays so we can't make final decisions. So we will (for now)start a second project to use the Influenza in ICD10 definition.

Data Collection Instructions

For any patient who either

• receives a full course of tamiflu/oseltamivir or any other anti-influenza agent
• starts a course of tamiflu but is discharged or dies before the course is finished

Enter the following in tmp:

• Project: Influenza treated
• Item: Influenza treated
• Date: date of treatment start
  • if started before admission and the data is not known, use admission date

• Time, checkbox and comment fields are not used
• do not contact anyone as in Influenza tracking based on these criteria

Don't use TMP as notes

Please do not enter this TMP until you have actually influenza treated. Use the Notes field on you laptop as a reminder if needed.

• I am confused, as the data collection instructions above say to enter this for any patient who is given a full course of tamiflu. If we have a suspected case, who either dose not get swabbed, or the swab comes back negative, then we do not track these suspected cases anywhere? I have some patients who have a swab ordered, but I cannot find any results on EPR or e-chart. This would mean that all of these suspected and treated cases would not be documented. My only coding choice would be tracheobronchitis-no culture sent or resulted, or Pneumonia-no culture sent or resulted.Mlagadi 09:19, 2017 December 29 (CST)
  • Hey Michele, from my reading of both influenza tracking and treated, I do the following:
• 1) if suspected and treated with a full course of antiviral,and no swab sent or swab = negative enter influenza treated (note swab results in

notes field)

• 2) if suspected and treated with a full course of antiviral and swab = positive then enter influenza with positive culture date
• 3) if swab sent and no treatment given and swab result= positive then enter influenza with positive result date (I would leave a comment

in the notes field)

• 4) if swab sent, and no treatment and swab result = negative, enter nothing (I note the influenza results in the notes field)
• 5) if no swab sent and no treatment and swab result =positive, enter influenza with positive result date (comment in notes field)
• 6) if no swab sent and treated with antiviral for full course, enter influenza treated (same as #1 above)

• If they don't have a full course of antivirals maybe we should be counting the days in our pharm_flow so that we don't use the influenza treated code in the temp studies for those that don't get a full treatment?The way it is set up now you can't tell if they got a full course of antivirals or not. Template:Discussion What are we supposed to do when we can't find the results in the chart? Not on the EPR at the Concordia and the Oaks. If we can see it has been treated do we just leave it as treated or do you want us to wait to find the results? In some cases it could take weeks to find. What are we supposed to do when the swab was sent at another site and that result is not on the chart or in the EPR?
