Teleform

Teleform is a character recognition program used by the Data Processor to scan completed TISS forms before importing the data into the TISS database (currently TMSX). Teleform v8.2 is the current version being used.

Hardware

Current hardware includes a tower PC with a single monitor, keyboard, and mouse attached. A duplex scanner is attached via SCSI interface (Adaptec AHA-2940AU) to the PC. This scanner is capable of processing a batch of TISS forms in a single pass. To operate the software, a USB key is required.

Software

The Teleform suite consists of a number of separate programs or modules to support the designing and processing of data collection forms. These programs include:

  • Designer
  • Print Manager
  • Scan Station
  • Reader
  • Verifier
  • AutoMerge Publisher (not used)

New form are developed and existing forms are modified using Designer. Once the design has been completed and activated, the form serves as a master template against which data collection forms of that set are evaluated and verified after they are scanned. The Scan Station, Reader, and Verifier are collectively used for this purpose.

Refer to the Teleform User Guide (X:\Teleform) for more information on using each of these modules.

Sales and technical support

The Teleform product is no longer supported by Cardiff (the original product developer). Teleform is now part of the Autonomy product line and all technical support is through them. However, the version of Teleform used by the main office (v8.2) is no longer supported by the vendor nor has Internal Medicine paid for any technical support, so this channel is not available.

Limited support though is available from Seward Consulting (a value added reseller) at 1-780-702-5117. Point of contact is Vaughn Seward. Should Internal Medicine decide to upgrade, Seward Consulting should be contacted first. Current version available is v10.7.

Product serial number is 400796.

Email exchange; all new PCs we are buying will be Windows 7 now. This means the software would no longer work, and likely neither would the scanner. We can use the old system until it breaks, but when it gets replaced this will be expensive. Emailed Trish, Tom and Brad proposing we let this sit until it becomes an issue, at which point Critical Care will need to decide whether they want to spend the money to continue TISS processing. Considering the worst case scenario is delays in processing TISS forms, and considering that any quote we get today would be outdated by the time we would use it, I think wait-and-see is the best approach. Sam from Connectys (sp?) just called me about Teleform. He had my phone number and both Linda and my names.

He was trying to sell us a new version. I was ready to blow him off but he claims the current version will no longer work once we move to Windows 7. In our environment this would likely happen with the next PC upgrade for that workstation (MS stops supporting XP April 8, 2014); that does not mean that eHealth will upgrade us before then, but eventually this will become a concern.

I asked him to send me further information so we can start thinking about this.

I tried to find more info online about teleform, but the mess of web sites out there all claiming a piece of it has me a little suspicious what is going on. Do we have any contact information on who has supplied our current license? Ttenbergen 15:50, 2013 October 9 (CDT)

Hi Tina, Glad that we spoke today. You have TF version 8.0 and it is no longer supported. The current version is 10.8. Teleform Desktop Licenses + Maintenance is CAD 10,400 and you will get new version TF 10.8. I have attached release note for version 10.8.

Please come back if you got questions.

Thanks

Tina will email Tom Ttenbergen 16:33, 2013 October 9 (CDT)
