Collection instructions

For every ICU patient, count how many venous blood gas tests are done during their admission.

Where to find this information

  • SBGH: it is available on EPR; The respiratory department enters them into EPR so all are there
  • GGH: it is on the beside ABG flowsheet Lisa Kaita 11:22, 2016 November 29 (CST)
  • Concordia: the ABG's are not in the EPR. They are on individual pieces of paper. These may or may not be secured in the chart. There is a ABG flowsheet that the ward clerk may or may not transfer the results on to depending on staffing. A hand count of the individual pieces of paper with the results may be required.
  • VGH: the ABG's/VBG's are not yet recorded on EPR. The individual sheets of paper have to be counted, which can be confusing because sometimes there are duplicate copies in the chart. If ever the pieces of paper aren't filed in the chart, I would have no way of knowing that they were ever drawn. There are no bedside flowsheets at the VGH for bloodwork of any type.Mlagadi 07:57, 2016 December 2 (CST)
  • HSC: We get them from EPR. I have not seen mixed gases done for years. We rarely use a Swan-Ganz catheter anymore and if we do, it is usually for one reading, then it is taken out.--Jpeterson 12:37, 2016 December 12 (CST)
  • OAK: on the bedside ABG flowsheet. Values are entered by RT analyzing the gas.--Lpruden2 10:39, 2016 December 5 (CST)

mixed gases

  • count mixed gases as venous. They reflect the amnt of oxygen in the venous blood just prior to the blood returning to the lungs for re-oxygenation. --LKolesar 14:09, 2016 December 9 (CST)

Transition instructions

Count this for every patient who is in an ICU on January 1, 2017, ie including patients who were admitted before and are not discharged yet. This will mean some back-collection for patients who have been there for a longer time.
