APACHE II has its own File:APACHE II DX categories.pdf with assigned weights that are used in a formula to predict risk of death (negative coefficient is associated with a good outcome, positive coefficient is associated with a bad outcome).

Data Collectors are not collecting the APACHE II DX categories specifically. Our diagnostic codes have been mapped to the Apache diagnoses by Dr. Carla Chrusch with some help from Trish in 2003 then Kendiss Olafson with Julie in 2005.

Our statistician has a macro for SAS to automate the code mapping.
