This project collects if an Intra Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP) was present during an ICU stay or not. Only need to record if this medical intervention was present or not during ICU stay. IABP Mostly done at STB, some at HSC, none in community ICU's.

Who Collects

Will be collected by ICU data collectors at STB or HSC ICU's.

Collection Instruction

For patients without IABP, no action is required (ie you don't need to enter that they did not have an IABP).

For patients with IABP enter into tmp tab in CCMDB.mdb:

  • Project: IABP
  • Item: IABP

Dates

Start Date: December 3, 2012 Stop Date: no planned stop date; Julie uses this for the cross Canada Collaborative CCVSM.

Data Use

IAPB (Intra Aortic Balloon Pump) element is one of the medical procedures that is tracked as a reasons for inter-facility transfer.
