This article contains instructions on how to set up a new laptop for a new location.

Kit

Stuff to take to a location to set up a laptop:

  • laptop
  • charger
  • SD Card (use the one from the previous laptop if this is a replacement)
  • mouse
  • possibly network hub if site needs one and does not have one

Laptop Prep

eHealth Prep

Any new laptop needs to be imaged by eHealth.

Send an email to the service desk with the following info:

  • MS Access 2003 - has to be 2003; Access is no longer part of the standard image so it needs to be requested (or you'll have to add it later, see instructions below)
  • admin rights
  • Wireless networking - the laptop needs to be added to a group to make this work
  • Printers - local one if known, or all otherwise, so that they will be set up for all collectors
  • RIS/PACS - Impax install

site specific EPR

  • StB Electronic Patient Record - if the laptop is to go to StB, it needs to be added to the EPR list there to get access. They still do some other stuff different, too, almost might be worth to get them to set it up in the first place.
  • VIC EPR - brand new, not yet clear what it will take to set this up. Ttenbergen 19:36, 2012 December 5 (EST)
  • GRA EPR - was installed over the last year or two; not sure what is required to set this up jsut flagging for now. Ttenbergen 12:17, 2013 May 13 (EDT)

With Any Internet Connection

  • Windows Update
  • If it was not installed by eHealth, install MS Access 2003 (ie not new version)
    • Add/Remove programs, MS Office, Change, make sure Access checkbox is checked
  • Encrypt the SD card

On WRHA Network

  • Internet Proxy
    • open IE and confirm proxy settings are being pulled from script
  • run batch job Regional Server\maintenance\laptop files copier.bat to copy contents of Regional Server\maintenance\Laptop Files to C:\ and also get the newest ccmdb.mdb)
    • allow FireFox to open and import IE's settings
  • for the old Latitude 2100s (not new 2120s), the video and touchpad drivers need to be installed. They are in regional server\maintenance
  • set up printing (see Printer)

First time a new user logs on

These are stored in the user profile so they have to be set up with the user logged in.

  • Changing settings in MS Access after first open
    • also get rid of extra tool bars...
  • change Folder Options to be visible
    • Windows explorer, Tools menu, Folder Options, View,
    • uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types"
  • set battery settings
    • always display (Control Panel/Power Options/Alarm/Alarm Action Sound Alarm for both low and critical)
    • audible warning (Control Panel/Power Options/Advances/ Always show icon on tool bar)
  • set password for screensaver (rightclick desktop, properties, screensaver tab, checkbox password)
  • get rid of toolbars in MS Access

Retrieve Data

If restoring for a previously collected location:

OR

Test News and Backup

  • change location settings
    • right-click edit the icon, make sure line starting with set ml= has the correct location in it
  • test news and backup

Train the collector

  • battery swaps
  • turn on/off
  • daily "News and backup" batch file
  • explain locks + anchors (i.e. if you want one, talk to Trish, but keep in mind that they are awkward to use)

Re-image instructions for accessible hard driver

Here is what needs to be sent to eHealth if a laptop is to be re-imaged and the hard drive is still accessible. If they can do this it may not require a site visit.

  • Firefox
  • Microsoft Office and Access 2003 (not the newer version)
  • Admin rights
  • Wireless
  • RIS/PACS/Impax
  • Correct drivers for the touchpad; the ones on the image don’t seem to lock out the pad while typing so the mouse goes all over (at least this used to be a problem)
  • Directories
    • C:\batches
    • C:\ccmdb_program
    • C:\ccmdb_data
    • C:\documents and settings\all users\desktop
    • C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
