Central line days are taken from Central venous catheter (TISS Item) and CCI Procedure on any type of Central Venous Catheter, except Swan-Ganz (Pulmonary Artery Flotation) Catheter placement

Significance

Critical Care and Infection Prevention and Control Unit track the central lines placements for CLABSI, quality improvement and resource utilization.

Inclusion Criteria

100% sampling for all patients with central line placements

Exclusion Criteria

Patients without central line placements

Frequency

  • Daily recording of dates a patient with central lines
  • Total number of ICU patients and ICU days with central lines on a monthly, quarterly or yearly basis based on the daily data.
  • Time Reference for month, quarter or year is based on calendar dates

  • Daily counting of central lines from sites is being submitted to the Database main office which is being entered and saved by the Data Processor into an access file in S:\MED\MED_CCMED\CCMDB_Special_Projects\Central_Line_Infections_ETube\DATA_ENTRY_LineCounts_ETube\CentralLineswithETtube.mdb

Jan 2013 to Sept 30, 2020

Starting Oct 1, 2020, the above TISS28 element is collected as part of the CCI Collection.
