There is some confusion right now which definition of influenza we will follow. However we are in the middle of flu season and people are off for holidays so we can't make final decisions. So we will (for now)start a second project to use the Influenza in ICD10 definition.
Data Collection Instructions
For any patient who either
- receives a full course of tamiflu/oseltamivir or any other anti-influenza agent
- starts a course of tamiflu but is discharged or dies before the course is finished
Enter the following in tmp:
- Project: Influenza treated
- Item: Influenza treated
- Date: date of treatment start
- if started before admission and the data is not known, use admission date
- Time, checkbox and comment fields are not used
- email instructions as Influenza tracking Myrna and Trish
Don't use TMP as notes
Please do not enter this TMP until you have actually influenza treated. Use the Notes field on you laptop as a reminder if needed.
Definition is known to be different from ICD10/WHO/CDC etc
The definition of collection for this tmp study is known to be different from definitions used elsewhere. Please use this definition for this tmp study. If the definition is not clear, as usual please ask for confirmation.
We collect separately (Influenza tracking) whether the patient was tested and what the result was. This tmp is only intended to track that they were treated.
Questions
- When you say discharged or dies under the above collection instructions do you mean regardless of what unit the gets transfered to? Are we looking at continuous stay in hospitals in winnipeg? For example if the patient is at the Conc and goes to STB do collectors need to follow up on whether the patient got a full course of Tamiflu at STB?
- If my patients are transferred out, and the Tamiflu hasn't been discontinued prior to transfer, than I assume they should be continued on Tamiflu. I consider these patients to have received a full treatment.Mlagadi 09:28, 2018 January 11 (CST)
- We still need confirmation on what to do if they haven't recieved a full course of antivirals (as instructed above) prior to transfer to another unit.I have several of patients who aren't getting the full course prior to transfer and then on follow up it is stopped on the ward prior to 5 days once swabs are in. Trish, Julie can you answer the question and then remove the discussion. Thanks.
- If they don't have a full course of antivirals maybe we should be counting the days in our pharm_flow so that we don't use the influenza treated code in the temp studies for those that don't get a full treatment? The way it is set up now you can't tell if they got a full course of antivirals or not.
