We have considered and decided not to code the following:
*Allergies in general (but do code any Anaphylactic reaction (anaphylaxis) or code if it occurs)
*Muscle Spasm

For lumps or masses that are detected in imaging rather than tactile the appropriate abnormal imaging code:
*Muscle Spasm

*Mild cognitive impairment/decline

**There are options here, one could decide to use, as appropriate: Encephalopathy, NOS or Encephalopathy, septic or metabolic or Brain disorder, NOS.  However, this is such a vague and variable term, that it's rarely appropriate to code it in the absence of a specific disorder/disease.

We have some "mass" dxs (Mass, lump or swelling, skin or subcutaneous tissue, NOS, Breast, unspecified lump (nodule, mass), Mass, lump or swelling, intra-abdominal or pelvic but the list is not comprehensive. For example:
"I have a patient who comes in with vague respiratory and gi symptoms. They did a chest xray and found a lung mass. They are now working him up for a probable lung ca, with mets to various places. In the old coding I would use ca-nyd. I actually use the ca nyd subcode a lot. I’ve talked to you about this before, because there is no ca nyd in icd10. You told me that you either have cancer or you don’t. For this particular patient I really wouldn’t have anything else I could code in icd10 for him. His symptoms are extremely vague. I don’t really like coding just symptoms, if there isn’t a proper admit diagnosis that fits better anyway.  I found a “neoplasm of uncertain behavior (i.e. uncertain if benign or malignant), nos”, but I don’t really like that one. It doesn’t really fit. Is it possible to get something like “admit for workup of malignancy”, or something along those lines?" (Debbie, 12:40, 2018 October 4 (CDT))
How should this be coded? Ttenbergen 12:40, 2018 October 4 (CDT)}}

Dxs that we have considered and decided not to code

We have considered and decided not to code the following:

 • Allergies in general (but do code any Anaphylactic reaction (anaphylaxis) or code if it occurs)
 • Muscle Spasm
 • Intravenous drug abuse (IVDA) - we have Illicit drug use, but there is no ICD10 code for specifically IVDA and we don't have a specific need to add a special code

lump dxs

We have some lump dxs (e.g. Mass, lump or swelling, skin or subcutaneous tissue, NOS, Breast, unspecified lump (nodule, mass), Mass, lump or swelling, intra-abdominal or pelvic). These are intended for tactile findings.

For lumps or masses that are detected in imaging rather than tactile the appropriate abnormal imaging code:

Imaging codes:

We don't code local invasion of a tumor that has not (yet) caused an actual complication. If there is a complication, code that.

Other dxs collectors think should be included

If we don't have a dx code and you think we should have it, put a discussion here (use the pink button in the button bar). We will review it and either add it, or explain which code it should be coded under and make sure a future search would find it, or add an explanation above that we decided not to code it and why.
