Confirmed influenza cases is a patient who has a positive influenza result from Cadham lab. Note: Hemophilus influenzae[1] or Parainfluenza virus is not considered as Influenza Virus.
Data Collection Instructions
For any critical care or medicine patient who has Tracheobronchitis or any infection with Influenza virus:

- if confirmed, enter: positive culture
- Date: date of first positive culture taken
- Time: time of first positive culture taken
- if suspected (eg. getting tamiflu/oseltamiv), enter: suspected
- if given Tamiflu, then subsequently the Cadham lab reports is seem by collect as negative, they removed suspected from Tmp.

Purpose and reporting
The Infection Prevention & Control releases summary report of influenza statistics every Influenza season and the Critical Care Directors would like to make sure that the reported statistics at ICU are consistent with the Critical Care & Medicine Database. The two programs agreed to collaborate by communicating the incidence of influenza as it occurs.
