Additional Info
- Reovirus, any of a group of ribonucleic acid (RNA) viruses constituting the family Reoviridae, a small group of animal and plant viruses. (the name is a shortening of respiratory enteric orphan viruses)
- Reovirus is a member of the family Reoviridae, which includes six genera, three of which infect animals: rotavirus, orbivirus, and reovirus [7]. The name is a derivation of respiratory enteric orphan viruses, acknowledging that they can infect the respiratory and gastrointestinal system but are not associated with any known disease. Reovirus is generally regarded as benign but can infrequently be associated with upper respiratory symptoms resembling a flu-like illness or mild gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhea. Reovirus is ubiquitous and has been isolated from untreated sewage, stagnant water, and rivers worldwide [13,14]. Exposure to reovirus is very common in the human population, and up to 100% of human adults are seropositive
