Aortic Dissection
- Aortic dissection is a tear in the inner aortic wall, creating a false channel for blood, while rupture is the complete breach of all aortic layers, causing massive bleeding
- If, as is usually true, the dissection is in the setting of an aortic aneurysm, then code it as Aortic dissection (any part) with other relevant Aortic Aneurysm codes as combined ICD10 codes as appropriate:
- If the chart says the dissection happened due to an aortic ulcer, that is just a type of dissection and does not need to be coded separately.
