Patients who appear to transfer from in-patient situation to Emergency Room
There are a few situations where a patient appears to (and sometimes really does) transfer from an in-patient situation to the same site's Emergency room. This may affect how we would collect Pre-admit Inpatient Institution, Previous Location, Service/Location, Boarding Loc, Service tmp entry and Dispo.
Generally, the instructions on those pages should explain how to enter data for this, but this page provides additional context, such as reasons and a record of our discussions about the different scenarios. The Dispo field#Discharged to ER or Urgent Care don't even allow direct-entry of this value.
Scenarios
GRA using ED as an extension to ICU when ICU is overloaded
- GRA discharging to ED on occasion to wait for ICU
- see Boarding Loc#Special Case - GRA MICU boarding in GH-Emergency
- this was no doubt discussed at Task or JALT but I am not about to look it up, but hey if someone comes across it it would be good to fill in
(EMIP/ECIP)-like situation of another service
- Can also be an (EMIP/ECIP)-like situation of having accepted a patient from another service while they were still physically in the ED
- For direct admissions to the ER that are under a service that we do not collect, and then are admitted to either an ICU or medicine service, while still physically in the ER. See Template:Pre-admit, Previous content
- this was no doubt discussed at Task or JALT but I am not about to look it up, but hey if someone comes across it it would be good to fill in
Actual move to the ED from in-patient situation
A patient in an in-patient situation might deteriorate to the point where that location can't care for them. There have been scenarios where a patient like that has been transferred to the ED. This might be a location like Psych Health transferring a patient who develops internal medicine problems, or Women's Hospital sending a patient to the ICU. This situation might include Parked in ER-like situations where the source is the same site.
- see Template:Pre-admit, Previous content for how to collect

Data Integrity Checks
- Likely, some cross check or more is flagging these for the Data processor during linking
- if not a cross check then a part of Julie's data cleaning must touch on this, or it would not have come up. What does it look for?
- should these be added to the L_Problems table and whitelisted from whatever cross checking we do?
