* Lisa updated the includes for this to add "necrotizing cavitary pneumonias". So, I added the "Pneumonia" category. I think this is something Julie occasionally reports on, so I want to make sure that coding this pneumonia in a more generic waste basket will not cause problems for her reporting. Emailed Julie and Lisa with link to this. | * Lisa updated the includes for this to add "necrotizing cavitary pneumonias". So, I added the "Pneumonia" category. - Lung abscess is a type of liquefactive necrosis of the lung tissue and formation of cavities (more than 2 cm) containing necrotic debris or fluid caused by microbial infection.
- The formation of multiple small (< 2 cm) abscesses is occasionally referred to as necrotizing pneumonia or lung gangrene. Both lung abscess and necrotizing pneumonia are manifestations of a similar pathologic process.
