{{Discuss@task | Collectors are entering HSC ER(direct) when there is no pre-inpt institution. Discussed, and there might be good reasons to do this. Need to decide how we want to collect and use this. Randy Martens has provided some feedback in email dated Nov 29.17.}}
Collectors thought it's important to know if e.g. a pt came direct from other site's ER, but had been accepted to one of our med wards. But sometimes these folks then get stuck in our ERs. Something like that. Julie should present the details.

A patient is considered parked in ER if they are a direct admit who gets stuck in the ER.

collection instructions

for patient arriving at a ward/unit via parked in ER

  • Previous Location field, enter one of
    • HSC - ER (direct)
    • GRA - ER (direct)
    • CON - ER (direct)
    • OAK - ER (direct)
    • STB - ER (direct)

Special Case: Pt from other site ER as direct admit but never admitted at that site

Follow normal admission coding practice for patients from out-of-town ERs. We understand that this means they will not show up as direct admits in our data.

Special case: EMIP-like patient from out of town

We don't have a code for an EMIP outside the city. And, we will not allow a patient who just comes from an ER as direct / parked. Follow normal admission coding practice for patients from out-of-town ERs. Do not use the ER (direct) codes.

We understand that this means they will not show up as direct admits in our data.

for patient leaving a ward/unit via parked in ER

Into Dispo, enter the new ward that the patient will go to. The option ER (direct) will not be available.
