This category will include content regarding how to code a diagnosis.

Care that is given to a person with progressive, advanced underlying chronic disease with little or no prospect of cure whose death is apparent however is not immediately imminent and for whom the primary goal is to maintain quality of life. Treatment is directed towards relieving suffering by managing underlying disease related symptoms.

A patient’s whose death is immediately imminent should be not coded as Palliative care.

Discontinuation of Therapy:

Is the withdrawal of therapy when it is apparent that death is immediately imminent.
