*AG REPLY --- for some things it'll be quite clear, e.g. extraction of a tooth.  HOWEVER, for resection/removal of a tumor or mass, "extraction" is the wrong item in CCI.  Instead it should be one of these:  [[Excision, Resection, partial]], [[Excision, Resection, total]], [[Excision, Resection, radical]].  This is now added to the text.}}

Additional Info

  • Use this for removal of something "natural" (as opposed to Removal of Foreign Body) from a part of the body.
  • The "something natural" could be:
    • loose body
    • stone (e.g. gallstone, kidney stone)
    • tooth
    • gland (e.g. parotid gland)
    • impacted stool
    • calcium deposits
    • vascular thrombus or embolism or atheroma which includes
      • endarterectomy
      • thrombectomy
      • removal of thrombus or embolism from within a blood vessel
  • However, when we're talking about removal of cancerous or other abnormal tissue, instead use one of these:
