Perry Gray got back to me about his desire to distinguish Witnessed vs. Unwitnessed Cardiac Arrests in our databases.
Starting now (or soon), he DOES want to track that -- but only at HSC. Since that distinction is NOT part of ICD10, I think that variable should be coded as a temp variable. Also, the duration he’s seeking of doing this is until we get about 40 WITNESSED arrests at HSC.
Data Collection Instructions
for which patients to code
Any HSC patients who has an Admit Diagnosis (or Acquired Diagnosis / Complication?) of Respiratory arrest or Cardiac arrest (Unwitnessed Cardiac Arrest, Witnessed Cardiac Arrest, Respiratory Arrest in old dx set).
how to code in CCMDB TMP
For every qualifying patient enter:
- Project: Arrest Witnessing
- Item / Column N: enter one of the following
- arrest witnessed
- arrest not witnessed
- Template:Discussion does he care who witnessed, ie medical staff vs visitor/other patient?
- Date: form date
Template:Discussion do we need date?
Start and Stop Dates
- Start Date:
- End date: not pre-defined, project will end when 40 records have been collected.
Template:CCMDB Data Integrity Checks
We won't implement any at start of project until we have some data to do a sanity check, but will likely need the following:
- if patient qualifies (HSC and arrest) then an entry must be present
- date or checkbox have to be filled
- if date is filled, date has to be between Arrive_DtTm and Dispo_DtTm
