This dataset contains data in support of the LAU Collection Project.

It is used to store data analogous to Readmission to MedWard. For the usual medicine program collection we don't need to store this explicitly because we derive it from future or past records. The sample size for LAU Collection Project is too short to do it that way reliably, so we will store the data explicitly.

Data Collection

• For any record collected as part of LAU Collection Project, consider whether there is an indication of a previous admission for which this is a re-admission, or a subsequent admission that is a re-admission for this admission.

• For the purpose of this project we will not use the same criteria as Readmission to MedWard; instead we will use
  • a patient who left the hospital system as defined in Discharged to community between admissions
  • re-admission within 7 days as defined by time Dispo DtTm (even if not collected) of last unit (ie hospital dispo) on earlier admission and admission at the next in-patient location (which may be this LAU)

what if they spend time in an ED in between as part of re-admission, possibly pushing past the 7 day range? I think we would want to include those. Ttenbergen 00:06, 12 March 2025 (CDT)

We need to decide if we will use the criteria set out in Readmission to MedWard The criteria may be too restrictive for the LAU project. waiting for Dan to weigh in also see Discharged to community decided not to use the Readmission to MedWard criteria instead use criteria of readmission within 7 days of previous inpt admission (any inpt location) or readmission within 7 days after current admission.

Data Entry Instructions

For every LAU Collection Project, a line with Project = "LAU Readm" and item = "later not entered"/"previous not entered" will automatically be entered. Update that line to one of the following:

If you find that either this admission is a re-admission, or that there is a re-admission following this admission, change the entry to:

• Project: LAU Readm - Item: "has previous" - Date/Time: that admission's dispo_dttm
• Project: LAU Readm - Item: "has later" - Date/Time: that admission's service start_dttm

If there is no corresponding re-admission, change the entry to:

• Project: LAU Readm - Item: "no previous" - Date/Time: blank
• Project: LAU Readm - Item: "no later" - Date/Time: blank
• Checkbox, Integer, Real, Comment: not used

Special case - both admission and re-admission are part of the LAU collection

• Even if the first admission and the readmission are part of our current review, still enter the tmp project. This will make the stats more straightfwd.
• Enter this even if the partner-record is also part of the LAU Collection Project; yes, we would be able to find that re-admission in our usual way, but having all the data coded the same way will make it more consistent to analyze.

Special case - previous unit is an inpatient location

• If the Previous Location was an inpatient location then the record doesn't meet criteria for Readmission to MedWard, so mark it as "no previous"/"no later".

  • Readmission to MedWard says "Readmission is attributed to the site or hospital from which the patient was discharged. "; so we would not need site details for "has later" since <this site> would be deemed responsible and it doesn't matter where the pt ends up next. However, we might want site details for "has previous", even if we only did as little as "same" and "other". I decided not to implement this for now since it wasn't requested, just documenting the consideration
