CCI component 2 codes - what was done
Procedure: Destruction
CCI 2 code: 59
CCI Collection Mode: CCI collect each

This procedure is a part of CCI Collection. This is one of the CCI component 2 codes - what was done.

Additional Info

  • Refers to destroying the body part in situ -- does NOT refer to removing the body part, for that use one of the "Excision" items (see below).
  • Examples include:
    • cardiac ablation = (T) Cardiac Conduction System + Destruction including:
      • Atrial Ablation - uses small burns to destroy the tissue that causes atrial fibrillation.
      • MAZE procedure - done for prevention of atrial fibrillation. The procedure creates scar tissue in an attempt to redirect faulty electrical impulses that cause arrhythmia/atrial fibrillation. It is really a subtype of atrial ablation and so is coded the same way.
    • vagotomy = (T) Cranial Nerves + Destruction
    • Lysis of adhesions
    • use for lithotripsy, combine with (T) Kidney or (T) Ureter, Bladder or Urethra
