Additional Info
- Mycobacterium Tuberculosis is the pathogen that causes tuberculosis (Tuberculosis of the respiratory system, confirmed).
- The M. tuberculosis complex (MTBC) includes four other TB-causing mycobacteria:
- M. bovis
- M. africanum
- M. canetti
- M. microti
- Use this code combined with Infectious disease NOS for treatment of latent tuberculosis
- Includes: tuberculous involvement of the GI tract, renal tuberculosis
- TB can infect literally every organ, but we only have specific codes for infection of the respiratory (Tuberculosis of the respiratory system, confirmed) and nervous(Tuberculosis of the nervous system) systems.
- For TB of any other organ, you use this code along with an "NOS" code for the organ in question.
Double Duty Pathogen code
This ICD10 code does double duty as both a pathogen and a disease condition:
- as the Infection with implied pathogen tuberculosis of other organs for which we don't have a specific code
- as the pathogen any pathogen from the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex
