Therapeutic abdominal paracentesis: The pick list has diagnostic but not therapeutic paracentesis. When I put it in using the component method, I put "therapeutic intervention on Abdominal or Pelvic Cavity" and then I put "drainage, evacuation" which seems OK. The only question I have is how do you differentiate this paracentesis from an open drainage procedure of the abdomen to drain an abscess or blood in the OR?
