Additional Info

  • Per Canadian Blood services -- 1 unit of FFP is 250 mL. These DO come with a sticker, but if the unit is divided (e.g. into a half unit) then the sticker no longer is used.
    • (a) the # of stickers from FFP +
    • (b) for FFP without stickers, divide the volume given by 250 and rounded UP to the next integer
      • e.g. 300 mL --> 1.2 x 250 --> round up to 2 units
      • e.g. 50 mL --> 0.2 x 250 --> round up to 1 unit
  • Effective March 27, 2023 a new plasma product “Octaplasma” will be replacing FFP. Also known as Solvent Detergent Plasma, it is pathogen inactivated meaning it carries a reduced risk for disease transmission and longer shelf life. Administration is unchanged. Octaplasma is supplied in 200ml doses. Frozen plasma (untreated) will remain available as hospitals use up their current inventory and CBS will retain a small inventory. We will count this as per the instructions above for FFP. Once we have fully converted over (expected to be September 2023) we will change the above instructions

Should we change the name of the CCI code to reflect the change? Lisa Kaita 13:51, 2023 March 24 (CDT)
