Additional Info

  • This item is a part of the recording of procedures in CCI. It is mandatory for every procedure coded. It has 2 possible values: admit versus acquired.
  • It refers to whether the procedure occurred before and associated with the with the patients's admission to the unit OR was done after admission.
  • Code a procedure as admit if it was: (a) Performed prior to admission to the unit and (b) Related to the admission.
    • While performed prior to the admission is clearcut (see item immediately below), "related to the procedure" can be less clear.
  • Code a procedure as acquired if it was performed AFTER admission to the unit.
    • Even if the procedure was planned before admission, but wasn't performed until after, then Px type is acquired.
    • Example: Patient admitted via ED with an acute abdomen. Plan was to take the patient to the OR for exploratory lap, but the OR wasn't ready yet. So patient went to the ICU first, and within 30 minutes of getting there, THEN went to the OR. This procedure was then acquired.
  • there is "admit" or "acquired" in the element description template on this page. Should be a link to the article that already exists for Admit and Acquired, not sure how to add that without stuffing up the tool you have utilizing the template. Trish Ostryzniuk Template:Discussion

SEE:

The Px_Type is coded as part of the CCI Collection.

Admit

Procedures that occur before the Arrive DtTm.

Procedures should be coded as admit procedure if they occurred recently or are directly related to the admission. Use your judgment.

Procedures prior to admission

Enter previous surgery if directly related to current admission.

Acquired

Procedures that occur after Arrive DtTm and before Dispo DtTm

Procedure after decision to accept, but before arrival

If a person is admitted and the plan is to take them to the unit first, and soon thereafter do the procedure, you should code this as acquired, not admit. Template:DiscussAllan So above should say "after Accept DtTm"?
