This is the Index page for pages about the Overstay2 project.
Background
"Overstay" is our term for the time a patient spends in hospital after the date when they no longer need medical care. It is defined as
- the difference during one hospitalization at one site between
- the first Transfer Ready DtTm tmp entry associated to a medicine record (or the final Dispo DtTm if there is none)
- and
- the Dispo DtTm of the final record (Med or ICU)
The term is related to the indicator Transfer Delay (Medicine). The Overstay2 project is a second iteration of the Overstay Predictor Project.
Patient Admission
- Unit staff admit the patient according to the site 110.500.411, Discharge Planning Screening Tool (DPST)
- In the process they fill out the File:DPST GGH.pdf as part of the admission package
- The finished form will be filed in the legal section of the chart
- The nurse who completes the form will put a green overstay sticker on the paper name insert of the chart if the answers to the 6 main questions are all "yes"
Data Collection and colour generation
- during the first data collection shift between 24-96hrs after form completion our Data collectors will use instructions in Project Overstay2 to
- collect data as per Minimal Data Set and Project Overstay2#Data required in addition to Minimal Data Set
- enter data from File:DPST GGH.pdf according to Project Overstay2#Data Entry Instructions
- generate the Overstay2 colour by clicking a button that runs the Overstay2 scoring model
- communicate the colour to the site as per Project Overstay2#Communication
Data processing and reporting
Overstay2 data processing and reporting in CFE explains the cross-checks and initial reporting capacity implemented in Overstay2 module in Centralized data front end.accdb.
Discharge Planning
The Overstay2 colour is used to determine pathways of discharge planning, see Overstay2 processes on the units to reduce discharge delay.
Data and model
Our data collection and the healthcare system changed since the first iteration of the Overstay Predictor Project. So, our statistician conducted a re-analysis and generation of Overstay2 model, which involved a data definition for factor candidates for the Overstay2 project. In the process, we realized that the three acute care hospitals have very different patient profiles at this time, so we ended up with separate Overstay2 scoring models for different locations.
Timeline
See Overstay2 timeline for a timeline of the project, including links to historical page versions as relevant.
